How to edit PDF online
To edit a PDF online, open the file in the editor, pick a tool from the toolbar, and click on the page where you want it. You can add text boxes, place images, draw rectangles and lines, highlight passages, cover content with a white box, and draw freehand. Click Save to download the edited PDF. Your file is never stored.
Step by step
Three steps. Most files take a few seconds.
Step 1: Open your PDF
Drop the file onto the page. The editor shows every page at full size.
Step 2: Make changes
Pick Text, Image, Shape, Highlight, Draw, or Whiteout from the toolbar and click on the page. Drag to move, use the handles to resize.
Step 3: Save
Click Save PDF. Your changes are written into a new file that downloads to your device.
Why use this tool
One workspace
Text, images, shapes, highlights, and freehand drawing live in a single editor, so you do not jump between tools.
Cover-ups that stick
Whiteout boxes are flattened into the page, so covered content does not reappear when the file is opened elsewhere.
Works on phones
The editor is touch friendly. Pinch to zoom, tap to place, drag to move.
Your file is never stored
Your document is used only to produce the result you asked for. Once the download is ready and you leave the page, the file is gone. There is no copy to keep, no account that holds it, and nothing to delete later.
That makes it safe for invoices, contracts, bank statements, ID scans, medical records, and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.
Read how it worksFrequently asked questions
Can I change the existing text in a PDF?
This editor adds new content on top of the page. To replace existing text, draw a Whiteout box over the old text and add a new text box on top. Full in-place text editing of the original fonts is on our roadmap.
How do I fill out a PDF form?
Use the Text tool to click on each field and type. For checkboxes, use the Draw tool or add a text box with an X.
Will my edits show up in every PDF viewer?
Yes. Edits are flattened into the page content rather than stored as viewer-specific annotations, so they appear in Adobe Reader, Preview, Chrome, and on phones.
Which fonts can I use?
Added text uses a clean sans-serif font embedded into the PDF, so it looks the same on every device. Existing text in the document is left exactly as it was.
Is it safe to use this with confidential documents?
Yes. Your file is used only to produce the result you asked for and is never stored. We do not keep copies, read the contents, or share them with anyone. Once you download the result and close the page, the file is gone.
Is this really free?
Yes. Every tool on PDF Editor Box is free to use without signing up. We may show an ad outside the work area, but we never gate features, add watermarks to your output, or limit how many files you process.
